Buenos Dias, her mit den Dias! Die Woche beginnt mit einem Sofdy-amanten, der bei jeder Diashow die Sonne aufgehen lässt.

Zur Information unserer jüngeren Sofdy-Freunde: Dias sind so eine Art Vorgänger von Digitalkameras und Picture-Powerpoint-Präsentationen, bei denen man sich nicht fragen musste: Where's the Power? Where's the Point?

Aaron Neville, der vom Rolling Stone u.a. zwei Jahre lang zum besten männlichen Sänger ernannt wurde und auch wie Johnny Cash schon Konzerte für Gefangene gab, singt heute für euch Louisiana 1927, eine bewegende Ballade, und das an seinem heutigen 70. Geburtstag!

Mit Sicherheit ist es auch in seinem Sinne, wenn wir den Song für heute in Australia 2011 umtaufen, um musikalisches Mitgefühl für alle von den Überschwemmungen in Australien Betroffenen zum Ausdruck zu bringen, zumal er bereits 2005 den heutigen Sofdy an dem NBC-Konzert A Concert for Hurricane Relief sang. Mit Louisiana 1927 schildert Randy Newman 1974 auf seinem Album Good Old Boys die Umstände der Mississippi-Flut von 1927, durch die 700'000 Menschen aus Louisiana und Mississippi obdachlos wurden:

Sung from the perspective of a neutral narrator recounting the flooding of Saint Bernards and Plaquemines parishes during the flood, "Louisiana 1927" features lyrics that depict the lament of the residents of those parishes in the aftermath of the flood.  In particular, the narrator lays out the widespread nature of the destruction ("river has busted through clear down to Plaquemine") and the volume of water the flood produced ("six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline"). Also touched on is the callous response of the federal government, embodied by the appearance of President Calvin Coolidge, whose reaction to the devastation is a disingenuous "ain't it a shame", followed by his calling the people of the area "crackers", an epithet.
