But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. But until you start believing in yourself, you ain't gonna have a life."

Woher stammt dieses Zitat? Wer als erste(r) die richtige Antwort an uns mailt, gewinnt den heutigen Sofdy als Gratis-Download! Jedenfalls haben sich offensichtlich die Punch Brothers die oben genannten Worte zu Herzen genommen und von dem einen oder anderen Punch im Boxring nicht unterkriegen und daraus keine Augenringe, sondern erfreuliche Töne aus den Musikboxen werden lassen. Aus dem Mund von Musikboxer und Mandolinist Chris Thile, der heute 30 wird und die Punch Brothers 2006 zusammengeschlagen...äh,nein, zusammengetrommelt hat, klingt dies folgendermassen:

"We got together one night just to drop a ton of money, drink too much wine, eat steaks, and commiserate about our failed relationships. We had gotten to play together a few days before and we had said that we needed to do something musical together. With our hearts smashed to pieces, it became more urgent — our lives had gone the same way for so long. I knew I wanted to have a band with Gabe [Witcher], but I didn’t know if it would be a rock ensemble, an ambitious acoustic classical thing or a bluegrass group. We played, and there was a serious, instantaneous connection. Then I knew I wanted to put together a bluegrass band — one with a lot of range, but aesthetically a bluegrass band."

Blaues Gras? So viel sei verraten: Bluegrass ist eine der wichtigsten US-amerikanischen Volksmusikrichtungen und gehört zum breiten Genre der Country-Musik. Typischstes Merkmal ist das rein akustische Klangbild, das heutzutage aus Banjo, Fiddle, Mandoline, Gitarre, Dobro, Kontrabass und evtl. Gesang besteht. Die Mandoline und Gitarre ersetzen dabei das Schlagzeug und erzeugen perkussive "Chop"-Schläge auf dem Offbeat. Die Harmonien im Gesang sind meistens eng in Terz- und Quint-Harmonien geführt. Dabei wird abwechselnd der Vers gesungen und das Soloinstrument gespielt. Spielt die Mandoline ein Solo, dann übernimmt die Fiddle oder das Banjo die Aufgabe der Chop-Schläge. (Quelle: Wikipedia)

So far so good. Sofdy wäre nicht Sofdy, wenn es nur beim Lesen bleibt: wie das Ganze tatsächlich klingt, findet ihr mit dem heutigen Sofdy Rye Whiskey heraus, bei dem die Punch Brothers mit musikalischer Begleitung von Schauspiel-Bruder Steve Martin im Boxring von David Letterman auftreten. Ihr seht, die Jungs sind nicht K.O. zu schlagen; geschweige denn beissen sie vor lauter blauen Augen ins blaue Gras.
